Field Trip: the Cloisters museum
There have been a few mentions of Unicorns lately (Jean & Zenken), and that reminded me of when I was short and my parents took me to the most exquisite museum I have ever been to. We went to see the Unicorn Tapestries at the Cloisters, a castle on 4 acres overlooking the Hudson River in Northern Manhattan (Washington Heights), a branch of the MMOA dedicated to the arts of medieval Europe.
My impression: I was enthralled, entranced, enchanted. I wanted to live there, like Claudia and Jamie did at the MMOA in E. L. Koenigsburg’s book, From the mixed-up files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.
Please come on a field trip with me to the Cloisters, where we will marvel at the Unicorn Tapestries, frescoes, stained glass, sculpture, illuminated manuscripts, metalwork, and panel paintings, and more than two hundred species of plants grown in the Middle Ages in the flower and herb gardens.
Our tour guides, Judy Stein and John Galligan, have a few interesting things to share with us before we embark.
On a side note: My Mom had an actual size latch hook rug of the Unicorn in Captivity (her favorite) and she threw her back out while working on it and never finished it.

Great photos on that site, when I could find them. I so wish I spoke French.
Admission is only $20.00 at the Cloisters, just add in airfare, hotel, and car and you're set!
