QotD: So Not True!
What misconception about the place you live bothers you the most?

...People that come to San Francisco expecting Malibu Beach.
Mark Twain said it best: "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco".
Many people think all of California is a 90 degrees and sunny every day beach community.
Some towns are near the coast, but "up here" the coast does NOT mean the "beach". Up here in Northern California, the shoreline is very short, the coast very rocky and the water very cold.
Actually, in general the weather here is usually on the cool and chilly side... so we don't dress for the "beach" in December. We dress appropriately for the 50 degree wet winter weather in rain boots and we layer warm waterproof clothes and carry umbrellas.
Northern and Southern California have nothing in common other than being in the same state.

I feel it's a good thing for the local economy, though; the tourists show up in their Disneyland shirts from the 100 degree hellhole and then they have to cough up huge amounts of money to the tourist traps on Fisherman's Wharf for overpriced sweatshirts. Meanwhile, I'm wearing four layers and am perfectly comfortable. My schadenfreude keeps me warm.
