What were your favorite Roller Disco Songs of the 70s?
The 6th Grade Serenade question got to me, because as I stated before in more than one prior post, I am 1978.
In the 6th grade, the thing to do was go to the movies and the Roller Rink, so we did.
I remember begging my mom to let me go see the movie ROLLER BOOGIE at the theater.
I thought that was the end all of the coolness spectrum - a movie about roller skating - I was in heaven. A year or two ago, I found Roller Boogie online at movieflix.com (sorry, the site down as of posting time and you have to join with a paid membership, and at the time I had one so I watched it and it was still a good movie even if a bit dated). This morning, I found a really great fan site dedicated to the movie, Roller Boogie - check it out!
I always loved roller skating songs ever since I was a kid. Melanie's Brand New Key comes to mind. Dire Straits, Skateaway. Peaches and Herb's Roller Skatin' Mate. The Roller Boogie theme by Bob Etsy. And of course, Cher's Hell on Wheels.
I also remembered really loving this song from the movie, so I thought I'd throw it in!

*Please hand me my body glitter, tube top, polyester wrap around skirt, my Candies, and my coke spoon please.*
I like disco, we all know that as I admit it very freely - and the coke spoon comment is a joke, duh!
I never thought very much of Saturday Night Fever as a movie, but my Mom did have the soundtrack and it was on frequent rotation in my house as a kid. Most of the songs I really don't care for, and I especially don't like the Bee-Gees very much at all, but I do have two favorite songs from other artists and I tried to decide which I liked best, but it came out a TIE! A really weird tie.
What!? I have no Donna Summer in my library? That can't be right, I just must have not have tagged it.
Nope, I just checked. Wow, that baffles me. All this time and never once have I posted anything by the Queen of the Discotheque? I offer these to you with my head hung in abject shame.
If you don't like it I will raise my eyebrows and really wonder about you, but I will still give you your four minutes back.
This song was released in 1969, but for our intents and purposes, it'll work.
What I know: Blind Faith was a "Supergroup", consisting of Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker (and some guy named Ric Grech I've never heard of, but is probably famous for something {and I probably know it, but don't care enough to look him up}). There was much controversy over this album cover. This is one of the rare songs that Clapton plays acoustic guitar on. They (Blind Faith) only put one album out. The girl in the photo was only 11 years old. I don't know what the lyrics mean, but I can't find my way home either. I really am feeling very lost these days...
