I am still having hot flashes/night sweats.
No amount of Maca or Flax helps. It's maddening because for 2-3 months everything was fine - then BLAM! out of left field - they're baaaackkk.
Not giving up, I found a FOURTH kind of flax seeds I had not tried yet - SPROUTED Flax Seeds.
It's really ground down, almost like a powder - which makes it much easier to drink than bits and pieces that get stuck to the side of the glass. And the taste is very mild. I've taken it two days now and I noticed the past two nights my night sweats have slightly, but noticeably decreased.
Here's what Health From The Sun has to say about their product (emphasis mine):
With more absorbable omega-3, plus vitamins, minerals and enzymes not found in ordinary milled flax, Sprouted FiProFLAX is a PREMIUM flaxseed supplement for discerning consumers who want the most advanced, effective and most bioavailable nutritional products.
Other benefits of Sprouted Flax:
With Sprouted FiProFLAX, you take less and get more. Each 15g serving contains more omega-3, lignans and nutrients than a 15g serving of ordinary milled flaxseed. Plus, the naturally occurring vitamins that are released during the sprouting process give Sprouted FiProFLAX improved product stability and shelf life- no need for refrigeration or special vacuum-sealing.
Disclaimer: I have zero connection to Health From The Sun - other than buying their product for my own use.
What is the best purchase you've ever made?
Well, I love my Bed In A Box bed, and I am a staunch advocate of ground flax seeds, but my best purchase is the Thermipaq heating/cooling pad from Thermionics.
I actually bought another one just the other day because I wanted one in each size - that way I can have one on my back and one on my neck at the same time for maximum beneficial enjoyment and relief.
I love it because it is reusable and electricity free, with no cord. You can either heat it up in the microwave, or freeze it in the freezer and it stays warm or cool for a good long time. It has a nice soft cover with velcro straps to hold it in place. And the price is reasonable (15-18$ average).
I've never felt anything better than radiant heat - it's nothing like a traditional heating pad. I make this promise: If you buy one you will not regret your purchase.
As a review bonus, let me tell you about the three varieties of ground flax seeds I've tried. Spectrum's is ground well, as is Fiproflax, but the Barlean's was just split, not ground like the other two. To me, the sweetest taste was offered by Spectrum Organics, then Fiproflax and in last place for sweetness is Barlean's... but the Barlean's comes in an awesome reusable canister.... but Spectrum is my choice pick!
Do. Not. Like.
It makes my stomach hurt, like rot gut. Even taken with a full meal. Nor do I care for the way it generally makes me feel - Like I had too many cups of coffee and now my stomach hurts. I'd deal with it if it did anything, anything at all to help night sweats, but it doesn't.
I called Nature's Bounty to ask about their return policy. A very nice, friendly and helpful CSR said she'd send me a pre-paid label and I could return the product direct and they'd issue me a refund, but I said I'd see if Walgreen's wouldn't just let me return it at the store, and if not I'd call her back. I may not have liked their EPO pill, but I do like the great customer service from Nature's Bounty.
Why didn't I just listen to Jaypo about the Flax? Well, I'll tell you. Only two people said flax, a dozen said EPO, so I went with the majority rule. Perhaps a tincture and not a pill would work for the EPO, a coworker said she's heard many people say EPO in pill form bothers their stomach. But I'm not trying it. I am just going to get the damn ground flax seeds like Jaypo said to do in the first [expletive beginning with F deleted] place.
